Forming stronger habits and improving your ways of doing can greatly improve your long-run success. Take a moment to read through 14 things you can do that successful people do often.
1. Constantly learn
They are continuously learning new things, and never rest when it comes to improving themselves. From reading books, to always asking questions, successful people never stop learning.
2. Think bigger
Looking further into the future, their goals and plans take the big picture into account. It is easier to project a trend for the next five years than it is for the next five days.
3. Plan ahead
Taking the time to plan ahead allows for better organization, knowledge of what to do, and the flexibility to know what to do when things do go off course. Successful people understand that failures will need to be a part of the plan, that they are temporary roadblocks to the greater goals. And the goals along the way are milestones to keep striving towards.
4. Value time
“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Helen Keller, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”
– H. Jackson Brown Jr. Author of Life’s Little Instruction Book
Successful people know the value of their time. This gives them better decision making power and keeps them from wasting it doing nothing. Knowing the value of your time does not mean you don’t sleep or watch TV, it means you better understand the value of the things you do. With this you are likely to do more value added things – exercise, read, learn, meet with friends – than non-value added things – drinking in excess, waiting, watching TV all day.
5. Enjoy ups and downs
Successful people are hungry for success, and are brave to face the down times. They see challenges and struggles as an opportunity to improve.
6. TAKE ACTION
You can have plans, think big, have fun, enjoy ups and downs, and so much more but the key element is to DO. Don’t fear failure, or even mediocrity. Anything is better than nothing. So GET STARTED. Whatever it is, take one small step and begin.
7. Measure progress
Once you have begun, start recording your progress. It serves you in two ways: as a guide to where a and what you can improve upon; and motivation to see you really are making progress.
8. Learn from mistakes
“More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren’t so busy denying them.” -Harold J. Smith
It is easier to learn from our mistakes than to learn from our successes. Successful take the time to analyze what happened and take the lessons with them for future application.
9. Continuous improvements
Successful people work through an activity and then take a moment to review the process. Asking themselves: “Where could I have improved on the planning side? What can I do to eliminate wasted time and resources?” The next go round, they take all of these things into consideration.
From one activity to the next they carry and apply their new learnings, further strengthening their understanding of ability and pushing their capabilities to the next level.
10. Personal responsibility for thoughts and actions
Successful people know that taking responsibility for their thoughts and actions gives them the ability to quickly acknowledge and fix mistakes. You won’t hear successful people making excuses. Taking responsibility for failures also means fully appreciating a success.
11. Love themselves
Loving and appreciating themselves allows them to truly value their mind, body, and abilities. When you value something, you take care of it. Successful people love themselves and it gives them the incentive to take care of and better themselves.
12. Express gratitude
Expressing gratitude is a way to keep a positive perspective throughout the day. Successful people take a moment to write down the things, people, and opportunities for which they are grateful. Doing so once a day makes a big difference in your outlook on life.

At times it can be difficult to disconnect from all the to-do’s and calm your mind. Successful people understand this, and take a moment each day to meditate, and center ones-self during the day. Often 20 minutes in the morning is enough to keep you focused and in the moment the rest of the day.
14. Have fun
Learn to have fun, to enjoy the excitement of life. Find joy in things outside of work, in spending time with others. Making room for activities and others can give you an extra dose of creativity when you continue on with your work.
